20 Books for Busy Boys: Baby to Toddler Favorites

Ages 0-2
As I look at the covers of each of these books, I am immediately transported back to sweet snuggly moments with my first son. From the moment his little blue eyes could focus on the pages, he absolutely LOVED story time, and it was a part of our everyday routine. We read them during tummy time, during quiet time, and eventually, even on the potty (him, obviously). Each of these books is still in circulation as we've added to our family, however, they aren't even close to their original condition. They've been glued, tapped, and pieced back together, some don't "pop-up" or "lift up" any longer, but they are still loved. I used to joke that my son "loved his books to death" and I usually had a stack of at least 5-10 books in the "book hospital" at all times.
Even during a rough meltdown, or a moment of frustration, I could send my son to his "quiet spot" where he could read his books until he calmed down. I can still hear his little voice, see his dimply hands, and feel the weight of his little body in my lap. Oh to freeze time!

Ages 3-5
As my first grew bigger, so did his love for books. Often, I would catch him in his room, on the floor beside his bookshelf, reading to himself. Now, obviously, he was just reciting the words he had heard a hundred times, but to him, he was reading, and he was proud. Books brought such calm to his heart, and it was our special time together. We treasured our books so much, that, when we traveled, we traveled with our favorites so we wouldn't miss a night of our stories. Some of these became our favorites because of a random book checked out at the library. Our weekly visits gave him the freedom to choose whatever books he wanted....usually based on the cover alone. Many were one time reads, but many were keepers that we added to our personal collection. Others were gifts from one of the Grandmas or good garage sale finds. There's one thing I don't mind having too many of...and that's a good book!!

Soon, we will be in a new phase. Soon, he won't fit on my lap (half the time he now sits besides me). Soon, he will be reading full books to me! I've had the privilege of sitting beside him while reading his sweet little 5 page books from school, and it makes this momma SO proud! I still have 3 little ones coming up behind him, but nothing will quite beat the one on one time I had with my first son on my lap...just the two of us. It was our special time, and it still is from time to time, and I will forever treasure the memories these pages hold in my heart.
