You DON'T Need Two of Everything: Surviving My Twin Pregnancy (Part 2)

7/14/2018

I will never forget the scene.

I walked into another twin momma's home...desperate for tips...but also desperate for a good deal on a twin nursing pillow.

Our 5 littles played while we managed to try and have an adult conversation.

As much as I wanted to listen to her advice, I was SO DISTRACTED....

Lining every wall of their playroom was TWO OF EVERYTHING, and along one wall were plastic tubs stacked to the ceiling!

I couldn't believe my eyes. SO. MUCH. STUFF.

I decided in that exact moment that I would do everything in my power to NOT aquire TWO OF EVERYTHING just because I was having twins.

I'm no minimilist by any means, but I also can't handle chaos and disorder, and I could only imagine adding two more of everything to the everything else that we already had from our older two would be the end of my sanity.

PLUS, NOT buying TWO MORE OF EVERYTHING would help cut down the costs heading into this new life with 4 kids.

As we journey this life of DOUBLE JOYS, DOUBLE TROUBLE, and DOUBLE LOVE, I am striving to keep the STUFF (and the chaos) at a minimum...

What You'll Need to OWN ONE of...
  • TWIN Nursing Pillow - We chose to use the My Breast Friend Supportive Nursing Pillow for Twins, but we've heard great things about the Twin Z Pillow
  • Breast Pump - The Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump Backpack has worked great through breastfeeding 4 children and pumping for extra supplements. (***check with your insurance before buying, as SOME cover the cost of any pump)
  • Activity Mat - All four of our boys (and my 2 nephews) have LOVED the Skip Hop Baby Treetop Friends Activity Playmat. The animals detach and can be used in the car/strollers as well.
  • Diaper Changing Station
What You'll Need to OWN TWO of...
  • High chairs/Booster Seats - We were lucky enough to find another used Fisher-Price SpaceSaver High Chair that matched our original perfectly. These two sit sit by side, using the chairs we already have, save space, recline for the early sitting phase AND can travel to the grandparents house quite easily!
  • Cribs - We bought an additional DaVinci Jenny Lind crib to match our original.
  • Car Seats - (i feel silly even typing that)
What You'll Need to BORROW ONE of...
  • Pack N Play - We did not see the need to buy a twin pack n-play since we already owned a single, and each set of grandparents has one at their house. When we travel, we only have to bring our own. (***Hotels will usually have 2 you can use).
  • Exersauser/Entertainer
  • Rock N Play - This is a GREAT napping tool. It travels from room to room easily while baby sleeps, doesn't take up much room, and can be used until babies start to roll over or want to wriggle (we used ours for 4 months). We owned 1 already from boy #2, so we borrowed the second.
  • Boppy Pillow - Nursing, napping, hanging on the couch, tummy time, and sitting up assistance...having 2 of these is helpful but NOT necessary. We did fine with just one and babies took turns using it!
  • Ergo/Baby Carrier - Most mommas, if this is NOT your first baby, will already have a carrier of some sort. Just borrow another for dad when you're out and about, even if it's not the same brand, color, pattern. We used an Ergo & a Tula to carry our twins.

I know how you're feeling, momma.

It's overwhelming. It's unfathomable at times.

Especially if this is your first pregnancy...there's a lot of stuff you will need. And even if it's not...where's it all going to go???

BUT i hope that this encourages you that YOU DON'T NEED TWO OF EVERYTHING!
